About
David & Sue Broadwell
The name may be fairly new
to fine writing instrument collectors, but David Broadwell is an
accomplished custom art knife maker with twenty four years' experience
shaping & sculpting a variety of metals, fine woods, ivories, and
stone. His knives are known for their flowing, organic lines and
meticulous fit and finish. He has won numerous knife awards over the
years and his art knives are in private collections around the world.
Becoming a custom fountain pen artist is a natural extension of his work
as a knifemaker. He brings the same level of artistic expression and
design to his one-of-a-kind fountain pens. His pen work has been featured in Stylophiles online magazine,
PenWorld International, Stylus Magazine, and was showcased in the
Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG) 3M Innovative Tools 2002
Exhibition.
David is a nearly-native
Texan who moved to North Texas as a four-year-old and experienced his
first tornado two months later. He studied Criminal Justice in college
and worked briefly as a machinist before becoming a knife artisan at age
twenty seven.

Creating art knives and
fountain pens is David's sole income and his wife, Sue, is an active
partner. With college degrees in Art and Graphics/Printing, she has
thirty years' experience in graphic design, copywriting, and
photography. She conceptualizes design ideas with David on occasion and
acts as a second pair of eyes, refining design lines with him as
projects develop. Sue shoots most of David's portfolio photography
and designed the gallery-style website you see here.
The Broadwells have two
grown daughters, and one preteen daughter at home who is
enthusiastically involved in the family business. They enjoy
fly-fishing, cabin camping, LOST, and time with
their thirteen year old Lab and ten month old Beagle. |
