"The
Dragonfly"
This pen in the "Inheritance" family was commissioned
with a dragonfly theme. Broadwell created the pen in warm swirled
amber and brown acrylic with titanium trim. Broadwell then had Ray Cover
execute the dragonflies in raised gold inlay, one on the cap top and
three around the central band. Engraved grass forms the background for
the bugs. Broadwell finished the pen by carving the clip into a
dragonfly's left rear wing. There are more details in Cover's engraving
and Broadwell's carving of the clip than can be properly shown in the
pictures. Another wonderful example of the coordination between
Broadwell and Cover in working with the desires of their customer.

"Under
the Sea"
This closeup photo highlights the pen Broadwell created in "stormy sea" green
celluloid, with a sculpted kelp frond clip and rope borders on
titanium trim. Ray Cover then engraved seashells onto the band and a
raised fine gold starfish on the cap screw.

"Acanthus"
Pictured with "Under the
Sea" is a piston filling pen
made with a warm amber brown celluloid and titanium trim. Broadwell cut
the stepped band and the angled cap top, then gave them to Cover for his
engraving of acanthus leaves with gilded background. Note the clear
inkview window in the barrel for checking ink supply. Similar
