A portfolio of functional art from artist-craftsman David Broadwell, including available and recent works in one of a kind art knives, fountain pens, and fine accessories.

General Information & Policies

KNIFE MATERIALS
Custom-patterned damascus steel is most frequently used. Other steels, including stainless can be considered according to specific needs. Fittings include blued steel, damascus, stainless, bronze, and sterling silver. Natural handle materials are preferred for their aesthetic appeal, like ancient or fossil ivories, exotic woods, and some stones. Sheaths for knives are ordered separately, and may be made by one of several different leather crafters.

PEN MATERIALS
Broadwell's pens are usually created with a combination of metals and synthetics. Damascus steel, mokumé gané, bronze, or titanium can be used for the pen bodies and for trim. Modern acrylic, celluloid, and hard rubber can be used for caps and barrels. Sterling silver or gold is sometimes used for clips and other trim. Whenever vintage materials such as hard rubber or celluloid are found, Broadwell will use it. Natural materials such as ivory or wood are generally not used. However, some inlays on end screws can be made from mother of pearl or ivory.

TERMS
Each knife and pen is custom made and priced individually. A security deposit is required on confirmed orders, with the balance due upon completion.  Deposit may be forfeited if the order is cancelled at any time by the customer.

AVAILABLE WORKS
If you are interested in purchasing one of the art knives or fountain pens showcased in the "Available" gallery, please email us. Please include your phone number so we can discuss arrangements with you personally.

COMMISSIONS
If you would like to consider personally commissioning a specific custom knife or fountain pen design for your private collection, please contact David. Currently, delivery time on confirmed orders is relatively short (approximately six to nine months) depending upon work involved, materials, & any embellishment.

PAYMENT OPTIONS
We will gladly accept your personal check, cashier's check, money order, domestic or international wire transfer (subject to transaction fees), or good old Yankee Dollars (in person only!). With the higher quality/lower volume nature of David's work,  a merchant's credit card account has proven impractical. For your convenience however, you can pay for purchases through PayPal if you are willing to absorb the transaction fees involved.

WARRANTY OF CRAFTSMANSHIP
Meticulous care is taken to present you with a quality custom knife or pen to enjoy for years to come. Specifically, Broadwell warrants the performance of your pen for a period of five years, and your knife for your lifetime. Approved warranty work will be performed as long as Broadwell is able to do so. Damage caused by abuse or neglect is not covered. Shrinkage, cracking or other changes in natural material such as ivory or wood, or oxidation of such materials as steel or hard rubber are not covered. Changes in knife and pen materials may naturally occur over time and possible repairs need to be discussed on an individual basis. After stating the above, we want you to know that should you ever experience any difficulties with a Broadwell custom knife or pen, please feel free to call us. Every effort will be made to resolve the problem.
